Marseille

Taking its distance from a modern world where the profusion of noise is produced by the technological development, micro|silence imagines a landscape devoided of the saturation and permanent filling that surrounds us.

The Gallery des Grands Bains Douches de la Plaine has a specific acoustic. Installations are orchestrated between them, as in a musical composition. The familiar substance of the world, recorded, treated, amplified and purified, is embodied in the space.
Subtle nuances and pulsations create a vibrating microcosm, made up of reliefs and echos.

Conciliabule

Myriam Bessette | Robin Dupuis

The audio installationConciliabule, a collective work in progress, explores the nature of the acoustic object and the transmission of complex voice messages through an electric signal.

Starting with voice samples, the artists have filtered out all references except for very low inaudible frequencies. The almost silent audio installation creates its own materiality in the form of vibrations that become visible on the speakers ...

Hertz / Seconde

Claudette Lemay

Hertz / Seconde is a drawing presenting a series of sonograms which transcode precisely the voices of nine interpreters, from the previous video creation of the artist Claudette Lemay.

This visual work, made of sound material, brings us to the following questions: does these data still make sense if we do not know how to decipher them?

Lighthouses

Alice Jarry | Vincent Evrard

Lighthouses is a site-specific installation developed in relation with the characteristics of the exhibition space. The project explores the potential of light and sound in the generation of unstable and transient forms.

Diffraction is key to this research: approached as both a material and a collaborative process ...

Sans Titre (Les colonnes d’air)

Dominique Blais

While being at the same time an emanation of the breath of a man and a tool that extends the movement of the body, this pipe-stick becomes an unifying element of the research that Dominique Blais leads in CIRVA in 2013.

The main axes of this research are focusing on the idea of time considered in the terms of phenomena, peculiar to both the constantly changing matter and the body caught in the movement. The movement, the stick that punctuates the exhibition spaces or accompanies other artworks, becomes thus a metaphor that understands the thinking process as an act of creation ...

Meknine Ezzine

Oussama Tabti

Meknine Ezzine Meknine Ezzine is a sound installation, titled like the Chaâbi song, “beautiful goldfinch” and singing five times a day. It takes a critical look at the concept of restricted religious freedom.

During Algerian war, a death row inmate had only his voice as means of freedom to invoke his god, and allowed him, by the call to prayer, to escape from his jail ...

Paysage sonore d'une exposition

Jean-Baptiste Imbert

The intent of micro|silence being to write a musical score in the space of the gallery, I suggest interpreting it.

By an in situ captation, the sound of every installation will be mixed live with the characteristics of the gallery’s space and as well as the artworks. Sound interpretation was created for this occasion, ...

The performance Paysage sonore is presented during the opening of the exhibition, on Thursday, July 06th, 2017, at 6:30 pm.

Rotor

Lucien Gaudion

Rotor is a topophonique installation, a sonification of data anémométrique given to the listening by a lutherie inspired of rhombes of the prehistory.

This rhombus / rotor of helical shape is activated by an engine turning proportionally in the intensity of various winds blowing around the planet.

This sound transcription of the phenomenon of the winds from all over the world creats a fictitious acoustic landscape, a « crossroads of four winds ».

Hoaxophonie

Lucien Gaudion

Hoaxophonie is a performance which suggests sounds of major power propagating through the landscape, a kind of « acoustic aurora borealis ».

This performance is based on the emulation of a sound phenomenon known under the name of « the hum » ...

Performance musicale

Esther Bourdages

The musical performance of Esther Bourdages, curator invited in residency in Marseille, is presented during the opening of the exhibition, on Thursday, July 06th, 2017, at 6:30 pm.
